SERIOUSLY! Ask my boyfriend. He can write a fucking book on it. xD
I was out of ideas for a new post when I thought of writing about all the bookish experiences we have had together till date. And while I think of them as fond memories, his reaction was quite bitter-sweet. AS SOON AS I TOLD HIM THE IDEA I WAS GOING TO WORK ON, HE WAS MORE THAN WILLING TO CONTRIBUTE. xD In fact, he even chose the title for me – and..ummm..I don’t know how to feel about that, to be honest! *shrugs* xD
”AM I THAT BAD?” I asked, with misty eyes. But he was already writing an EXHAUSTIVE LIST of all the times I had been VERY FUCKING DIFFICULT ON HIM, as an obsessive reader. xD
So, at his most earnest request, I am going to share a few incidents with you so that, as he says, ”my cruelty can come to light.”SUCH A DRAMA QUEEN. UGH!
The Book Fair
Let’s go back to November 2019. We hadn’t been able to meet for a few weeks. His exams were going on and since he never starts studying until THE DATE-SHEET HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED (me too, actually xD), he needed some time to, well, cram it all up.
His days were swallowed completely by the exams and I was busy making lists upon lists of ALL THE BOOKS I WAS GONNA BUY AS SOON AS THE FAIR STARTS! *heart eyes*
He knew my plan of visiting the fair – OBVIOUSLY – but I hadn’t decided on a specific date yet. You see, mum and I usually went together so it had to be a day when she was free as well.
The arrived the last Sunday of November and I woke up to mumma already determined to go to the fair that day. I WAS SOO FUCKING EXCITED! I hopped out of my bed to get ready when my phone rang. Yep. It was him. Asking me to meet that day. Now, I was stumped. I wanted to meet him, OF COURSE – SO BADLY, BUTTTTTTT….
IT WAS THE LAST WEEK OF THE FAIR! HOW could I miss it? You tell me!
Well, I didn’t.
I re-arranged our meeting and went to the fair instead. He was angry at me FOR TWO DAYS STRAIGHT for abandoning him like that! To be honest, I now realize that his anger was justified – it had been almost a month and the date was LONGGG OVERDUE!!
So ALRIGHT! I am SORRY! You happy? PLEASE LET IT GOO NOWW! 😦 😦
Pride and Prejudice
Okay THIS ONE’S JUSTIFIED TO BE HONEST!
We hadn’t started dating yet. I liked him. A LOT. But I needed to make sure that he is THE ONE! 😉 So, one day, I started talking about my love for Jane Austen. He loves period dramas so I was sure that this was a topic he’d be interested in. BUT READING THE DAMN BOOK? Yeah, NO CHANCE.But I tried to get him to read Pride and Prejudice just the same. MAYBE..JUST MAYBE..HE WOULD GIVE IN? But, nope. Reading classics was not his cup of tea.
I was like,
Of course, it wasn’t HIS fault but I just – I WANTED HIM TO LIKE PRIDE AND PREJUDICE!!! So, I decided to give it another try. You see, we used to suggest each other loads of movies and then discuss about them. And my next suggestion was – yes, you’ve guessed it right – THE 1995 PRIDE AND PREJUDICE MINI SERIES! ❤ ❤
He couldn’t say no – although he tried – because I watched HIS suggestions as well, whether I liked them or not. (He loves war fiction)
Well, he did watch it. For sure. He watched it and GUESS WHAT??!! HE CAME LOVE IT TOO! He also discussed the characters with me *heart eyes* and I WAS LIKE OKAY, YEAH, HE IS THE ONE!
But yes, I agree – until he watched the series, I gave him a REAL HARD TIME! Sorry not sorry about that tooo!!! 😉
We Were Liars
When I first read We Were Liars, I couldn’t control the tears. I couldn’t control the sadness. And I couldn’t stop talking about it with him. He got intrigued by my obsession for it and decided to borrow my copy and give it a read. I knew he would love it as well and that’s EXACTLY what happened! HE LOVED IT SOO FUCKING MUCH.
But I was troubled about one thing. You see, it had been weeks since I lent him the book but he was showing no intentions of returning the book! I mean – You read it. You loved it. NOW GIVE IT BACKKK!!! And one day, I mentioned this to him. He looked at me dead serious and laughed out loud. He started teasing me, declaring that it belonged to him now.
THE HORROR ON MY FACE MUST HAVE BEEN TOO OBVIOUS TO BE MISSED! I demanded the book back RIGHT THEN AND THERE. xD He pulled it out of his bag and confessed that he just wanted to see my reaction and smiled at me most lovingly. I blushed and blushed and blushed at my foolishness, my fickleness! xD
It’s been 4 years since that happened and he still teases me about it. *shrugs*
Well…THERE ARE MANY MANYYY more such incidences that I would LOVEEE to share with you but…some other time, yeah? 😉 ❤
For now, tell me – COULD YOU RELATE?!?! I AM SURE you agree with me about We Were Liars yeah?I MEAN…BORROWING A BOOK AND NOT GIVE IT BACK?!? BADDDD!!! *shrugs*
Okay…so now it’s your turn – any crazy experiences related to books you wanna sharee!??!!! 😉 ❤ ❤
”NO POSTS ON SUNDAYS!!” – probably the last sentence Mr Dursley ever uttered with joy!
High school finals+ my copy of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone hidden behind THAT BIG BULKY Biology book, which merely served as a decoy to fool mumma! ;p
I didn’t get to read Harry Potter as a kid but the magic was just the same even at seventeen – which was when I experienced this magical world for the first time (through the written word, I mean) I WENT CRAZYYY!! I would read it before going to bed – IN BED – before going to school – after school – THE WHOLE FUCKING DAY.Which was probably why I scored so less in Chemistry but that’s a different issue altogether! ;p
Having watched ALL of the movies as an 11 year old, I knew about the plot but NOTHING could have prepared me for the absolutely enchanting world that was waiting for me in those pages! OH THE MAGIC – it pulled me in FROM THE VERY FIRST SENTENCE. Rowling’s way of writing is just as gorgeous as the world she has created and THE FIRST TIME I JOURNEYED INTO IT, I wanted to lock the door behind me so that no one could come looking!
This one time, I took my copy of Order of The Phoenix into the bath – because mumma would’ve been FURIOUS had she seen me reading it during exams – and accidentally dropped it in water. I CRIED MY EYES OUT THAT DAY! But….it didn’t stop me from continuing the journey, of course.
My love affair with Harry Potter – the books AND the movies – is more than a decade old and with each passing re-read, it turns into something even more magical but BY GOD I WISH I COULD GO BACK IN TIME AND EXPERIENCE IT WITH FRESH EYES ALL OVER AGAIN!
I could talk on and on about how I used to imagine getting my very own Hogwarts letter, packing up, and leaving the boring muggle life behind me;how fascinated I was with their book-lists at the start of each term and how I jumped up and down with joy when I discoveredQuidditch Through the Ages, Tales of Beedle the Brad, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find them –
I could talk about all that RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW but that would take up WAY TOO MUCH SPACE so INSTEAD I have decided to choose the first Harry Potter book for the Bookish Obsessions for this month. AND IT’S GOING TO BE A HELL LOT OF FUN!!!
Soooooo??? ARE YOU READY to relive this magical book ONCE AGAIN, HUH??!?! 😉
There are soooo many blogs that I ADORE but loving them comes at a price – a delightful price – THE INCREASE OF MY TBR PILE AT AN EXPONENTIAL RATE. My fingers shake as I click on their posts because although I know that their reviews will be groundbreaking-ly amazing, they will also force me to add the books to my own list which will complicate things for the already pitiable state of my ARCs. ;p
BUT….that still doesn’t dissuade me from reading them and loving them and then dying under the soul crushing weight of my tbr. AH, WHAT A TIME TO BE ALIVE!

[NOTE: The main character suffers from a serious case of postpartum depression + there are mentions of child abuse. Please keep that in mind before starting the book.]
Once a woman becomes a mother, she is reborn – with her center of life now being her children. Her every waking thought is consumed by anxieties about their well being and her dreams? Filled with hopes for her lovely little ones.
She would do anything to protect them. Anything at all.
And Jess was no different. She was just a mother, trying to protect her children – from those little germs everywhere, from strangers and predators, from unnecessary exertions – but most of all from herself. SHE was her children’s biggest threat, her mental condition irrelevant to anyone else because no one – not even her own husband and her best friend – tried to see past her mask, to actually notice how distressed she had been lately. Everyone pinned it down to her obsession with perfection, her reluctance to place any trust in anyone other than herself. Her anxieties were irrelevant – something shrugged off as overthinking and even a certain kind of childishness.
But what will happen when she’ll be made to choose between protecting one child or keeping her family from falling apart?
What would she do?
SHE will fall apart instead, in her desperate tries to keep her loved ones from harm;to make sure that nobody snatches her children from her. She will break down like never before – subject to people’s scrutinizing eyes, judging stares.
Reading Little Disasters felt like I was thrown into a world where I would NOT have ventured if I knew what I’d be taking on in the long run. Oh my! This book tested my heart’s patience to bear shock way too much.
A baby has been hurt and her mother is in the line of fire of suspicions from everyone around her. They think the worst of her.
”You are a bad, bad mother.”
Her thoughts keep playing tricks on her mind and her outer world just reflects more of the same.
And the worst of all? Her best friend – the paediatrician who admits Betsy, Jess’ daughter – is suspicious of her friend as well. Liz – the smart, the quick, the no nonsense doctor – is torn between her duties as a friend and her responsibilities as a professional. And the way Sarah has captured her dilemmas is outstanding, worthy of praise. ❤
I can’t tell you how much I adored the author’s way of weaving a gripping plot around these few but VERY intriguing characters – the way Liz’s memories entwined with Jess’ present circumstances left me in complete adoration of Sarah’s writing! Not to mention the ease with which she manages the delicate timing of the flashbacks ABSOLUTELY DELIGHTFUL. It added to the grim excitement that surrounded the plot as I flicked page after page, desperate to find out the EXACT relation between these two friends and their circumstances – the past and the present.
Little Disasters is just as much about motherhood and it’s trials, it’s highs and lows as it is about marriage, the role of a partner, and the need for communication. I was left riddled with a series of scenarios that started and ended with a bold IF ONLY:
If only Jess had shed her fear of being judged and came clean to Ed about her mental state.
If only she hadn’t tried to be so PERFECT and ORGANIZED all the time.
If only Ed had picked up on his wife’s trauma a little bit earlier, and without contempt and horror in his eyes.
When you have lived with someone for more than a decade, you get to know about how they like to do certain things and how best to approach them – especially when they are shelled in and emotionally vulnerable. And the fact that Ed had been too busy with printing money to give his wife and her hard work and struggle at home a good thought was really irritating to me.
But then, so was Jess’ inability to put aside her fears and confess. Much as we’d like them to be, MEN ARE NOT MIND READERS. They usually don’t suspect anything is particularly WRONG unless it’s on a rather HUGE scale OR unless you yourself point them towards the thing that’s been bothering you.We want them to just KNOW but they almost never do. They just tend to train themselves to take things on the face value because its easier and less emotionally taxing to do so. So being OPEN with your partners about what’s been bothering you IS THE BEST THING TO DO.
But of course. for a perfectionist like Jess – someone who had had a serious case of OCD and Cognitive Personality Disorder (which everyone had been unaware of) – this was difficult to do. And I completely understand! But that doesn’t take away from the fact that this behaviour of hers led her into the extreme circumstances she found herself later on – being held under suspicions of being the sole cause behind the serious skull fracture of her baby girl.
Her situation made my eyes well up more than once. Her desperation, her sadness, her frustration at not being able to touch her baby girl, to hold her or any of her children was too painful to witness.
Can you imagine? Taking a child away from her mother?
And then the way Liz’s mother’s secrets crept up just in time to escalate the plot and give it even more intensity and meaning left me thrilled AND cold – both at the same time. THE HORROR ON MY FACE WHEN I FOUND ABOUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED TO HER BABY SISTER CLARE WAS BOTH GENUINE AND VERBAL. I couldn’t cope with a revelation like that!
And now, I let out a deep sigh, as I finally close the book – feeling as if I have physically endured what Jess and Liz mentally went through. And it’s tiring. And yet, as Galadriel said, hope remains for people who are true and brave of heart.Who come face to face with realisation that forgiveness – for yourself AND for others – is the only true way to rise above pain and hurt.
Look, I didn’t know what I was taking on, how emotionally screwed up I will feel, how utterly helpless in the face of Jess’ confusion and frustration, at the thought of a few months old baby lying in the hospital with her head all but cracked open, from the horrible and pitiful secrets that engulfed Liz’ mother’s past AND present –
BUT YOU DO.
YOU HAVE A CHOICE!
Remember, if you do decide to read Little Disasters – which, despite all the tears and agony, I still 100% recommend – keep in mind that you will be thrown amidst an emotional and psychological storm that will leave you feeling helpless.

You – yes, you, sitting behind that computer screen looking all kinds of beautiful and confident 😉 – tell me, what was your most popular post?
You know the one where you were getting crazyhits moments after hitting publish. People were commenting like nothing else mattered. I bet you felt like A GOD, didn’t you? You were able to help them in some way.Either by making them laugh, or maybe sharing some tips, or maybe just a feel-good post?BUT PEOPLE RELATED TO IT, DIDN’T THEY? Those moments are still seared in your memory – THAT FEELING OF BEING VALUED; THAT FEELING OF A POST TAKING OFF. *heart eyes*
You were on top of the world – the blogging world at least – and there was no limit to your happiness. It was all worth it that day, wasn’t it? The hard work, writing even when you didn’t feel like it, those long hours searching for EXACTLY THE RIGHT GIF, man THAT’S a real pain!
Still, the appreciation makes it ALL WORTH IT. It’s heartwarming to know that you aren’t screaming into a void; that people are actually listening to you. Nothing pumps up the spirits of a blogger kinda like those appreciative comments, those crazy shares, those increasing stats. (Own it now! DON’T BE SHY ;))
But nothing lasts and you too shall fall down. It’s the law of nature. AND GRAVITY. *shrugs*
You climbed up the mountain. It was hard. It was time taking. But it’s a fucking peak. Sooner or later, it’s gonna poke a hole through your goddamn shoes and you’re gonna have to climb down. If you don’t – a snowstorm might do the trick nicely.BUT COME DOWN YOU SHALL.
But, does it mean that you will start measuring every little success on that scale?Does it mean you will stop enjoying life’s simple pleasures just because they don’t provide the same kind of exhilaration that climbing a fucking mountain does?
I am sorry but that’s just too dumb for words. Yes, I said it.
When you write a post, you should do it ONLY BECAUSE YOU WANT TO WRITE. Not under the pressure of staying at the top. Because that attitude will definitely – DEFINITELY AND SEVERELY – affect your writing process, I am telling you.
Just yesterday I was going through all the posts I made during the last year. And I was surprised by how well a couple of them performed. It came as a shock, to be honest. Plus this realization brought with it a desire, a hunger to reach those heights again. I quickly opened my notepad and decided to write something EXACTLY LIKE THOSE POSTS – setting the bar way too high in the very beginning!I put so much pressure on my mind that the creativity muscle just kinda –
I was forgetting one little thing, though – not every post I’ll write will be a masterpiece. Not every single post will do well. Not every single post will have people raving all about it all over the internet. AND THAT IS OKAY.
You see when you think about it – it’s just as it should be, really. If you’ll give serious thought to how this whole writing process works, it’ll become evident to you thatit’s a perfect balance of odds – the more you write, the more chances you create of writing something awesome. But expecting every single word to be like that? I am sorry but that is just not possible.
It’s a process. You practice with the practice. It’s not like you’ll sit in meditation for an hour once a week and the right idea will just flow through your mind and onto the paper. NOPE. How it ACTUALLY goes is you write and write and write and then one day, while writing, some words will JUST CLICK and VOILA! There is your next blockbuster post.
BUT until THAT happens, remember to enjoy every single word you write because it’s helping you and your craft – whether you can see it right now or not.
Now, I wanna hear your thoughts on the topic: do you agree? Do you have any insights that all the rest of us could benefit from? Or maybe any such experience when you felt forced to give in to the pressure of ”famous topics” or ”viral posts”?
I like pretty books and I cannot lie. I am sorry but I can’t. Far too often have I went to the bookstore with the intention of buying a bunch of eye-candies. If the story turns out awesome? YAYYY! But EVEN IF IT DOESN’T, the books look fucking gorgeous on my shelf AND THAT’S ALWAYS A PLUS! *shrugs*
I am not even guilty about it. Nuh-uh. In fact, I am PROUD AS HELL of all those beautiful (if not so interesting) books adorning my shelf. (Red Queen comes to mind. Heh. xD)
And to celebrate this love of beautiful books (which I am sure ALL OF YOU SHARE AS WELL 😉 ), I am starting a new series on my blog – COLOR OF THE MONTH – where I will post the prettiest book covers with new colors EVERY MONTH!
And we are starting off WITH MY FAVORITE (if a bit cliche) PINKKK!!!
[Note: I haven’t read any of these but I am planning to! <3]
🌸 A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall : Okay, do I even NEED to tell you why this is MY VERY FIRST CHOICE?! I mean LOOK AT IT! JUST LOOOK! It’s just tooo fucking gorgeous for words. Romantic, heartwarming, the RIGHT AMOUNT OF CHEESY – AHH!!! Can’t stop gushing about it! ❤
🌸 Dear Fang, With Love by Rufi Thorpe:This cover matches the story – about High school lovers turned distant parents – beautifully. I can feel the unsaid words, suppressed emotions, depression, trauma, anxiety, estrangement – EVERYTHING. An absolute beauty, wouldn’t you say?
🌸 The Royals by Rachel Hawkins: Okay, from the title itself I can tell that this will be one of those cheesy stories where the girl has no desire to be a princess or something but she is forced to and all. LIKE HOW CAN YOU SAY NO TO SUCH A LAVISH LIFESTYLE?! It will always remain a mystery to me. BUT that doesn’t mean one cannot enjoy such a one-time-read romance from time to time, does it? 😉 If I do end up reading it, I won’t go in with high hopes, that’s for sure. If this book manages to capture my heart, that’ll definitely be a plus BUT EVEN IF IT DOESN’T, it’ll be nice to own such a pretty copy! ❤
🌸 The Awakening by Kate Chopin: Almost ALL of you must have heard about this book, haven’t you? I mean, you MUST have read a review or another floating around the blogosphere. Dealing with female infidelity in an honest-to-god way, there is NO WAY this book could end up being a disappointment. AND WITH A COVER LIKE THAT? NO CHANCE!
🌸 Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See: I’d be lying if I were to tell you that the cover captivated me more than the title. There is a certain mysteriousness, a certain complexity to the title of this book that I couldn’t help but add it to my TBR. The cover was definitely a plus and the fact that its Historical Fiction adds to the long list of reasons why I am dying to read this one. BUT OH THE COVER!!! *heart eyes forever*
🌸 The Idiot by Elif Batuman: The sheer simplicity of the cover would capture ANYONE’S heart really. You’d be FORCED TO WANT TO KNOW the contents of the book. Seriously. Just keep looking at it. No, no. Don’t take away your eyes yet. Focus on the pretty background, then the rock, then the title – rushing to the bookstore yet? 😉
🌸 The Bed Moved by Rebecca Schiff: I am sorry but LOOK AT IT! It’s TOO FUCKING INTRIGUING! I know it isn’t all pink but I mean COME ON! How could you NOT want to read it after the first impression like THAT? It’s a collection of horror stories – as you must have guessed by the title and the font and all – and I AM WAY TOO EXCITED to lay my hands on it ASAP!
🌸 A Guide for Murdered Children by Sarah Sparrow: Stephen King says, ‘‘There is no safe place to read this book.” and I gotta say between the title and the fact that this is a psychological thriller, he is right! The only good that’ll come out of owning it – apart from it looking pretty on your shelf – is that people will stop leaving you in charge of their kids. (insert echo voice) FOREVER. EVER. EVER.
🌸 A Quiet Kind of Thunder by Sara Bernard: When I first saw this cover, I immediately fell in love with it. The way it depicts silent AND chaotic states of mind – both at the same time – perfectly blends with the title. This is a story of quiet yet thunderous love and I have an inkling that I am going to adore every single moment of reading this beauty!
🌸 Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams: ”QUEENIE will have you nodding in recognition, crying in solidarity, and rooting for this unforgettable character every step of the way.” x.X I mean, for a cover as gorgeous, daring, and bold as THAT I am willing to endure ANYTHING! *heart eyes* ❤
SOOO??!??! Did you like the covers? Which one’s your favorite? Have you read any of them?! PLEASE TELLL ME IF YOU HAVE!! ALSO, what is YOUR favorite colour? ❤ Let’s talk!
My childhood was full on crazy – I’d slap someone four years older than me and then get into trouble for that, took a few things too and hid them in a place where nobody could find them and then watched everyone panic – a classic example of this was when I took my aunt’s gold ring and kept it in my room.
In my defense I was only 5 years old and that ring was very fucking shiny – it had a peacock engraved in it. IMAGINE THAT!
Yeah, so I took it – in innocence – but when she got mad at her own girls, I was afraid of telling her that it wasn’t them, it was me. And so, I didn’t speak out for the next three days – until my mum found it while looking for something in my bag.
But, hey, THAT’S ANOTHER THING!! 🤷🏻♀️ Right now, I just wanna talk about some other things I did as a child that earned me the label I now wear with much pride and respect – “The Crazy Book Girl”
Let’s begin, shall we?
Guilty of Stealing
Ladies and Gentleman, we are gathered here today to witness the public shaming of this girl – who goes by the name RAIN.
Look at her. Just look. So innocent, isn’t she? Well, don’t be fooled by her little face because behind that innocent smile is the heart of a very heinous criminal who can and WILL destroy everything you hold dear – mainly books.
The Local PD, Bookishton
Yep. They are absolutely fucking right. I did steal someone’s book once.
Hey, hey, HEYYY! Before you come at me with torches and swords, let me explain dude.
It was the year 2005 and I was merely 9 years old. By that time, I had already fallen head over heels in love with books – those pretty little books hiding those pretty little stories!
This one time my ”friend” – let’s call her P – brought her recently rand new social science book to school. Okay, I admit that the content wasn’t very exciting but THOSE PAGES – glossy and smooth as butter. HARDCOVER. Pretty drawings. IT WAS THE VERY DEFINITION OF BEAUTY.
And I was jealous. And SHE FUCKING KNEW IT! That’s why she kept showing it off whole dayy!
Well, I got mad and decided I wanted that book. And so, when she went to the bathroom – I took the book out and put it in my bag. It wasn’t too big so nobody noticed me doing so.
The first few moments I felt awesome but it soon converted into guilt. As that feeling started to overpower me, I decided to out it back in her bag but she came back right at that moment and since it was the last period, I couldn’t do it that day!
When she went home, she must have cried a lot because her new book was missing. AND I FELT AWFUL TOO! And so, the next day – since I usually arrived in class before everyone else – I put the book on the very back seat and sat on my own bench.
The boy who was sitting there noticed the book in the first period, read her name and gave it back to her and that was that.
P, if you are reading this, I HOPE THIS TEACHES YOU NEVER TO FUCKING SHOW OFF!
NOW GO AWAY. You were a mean bean in the later years and I HATE YOU!
It’s all about them stickers
As a child, I had a LOT of picture books. My mum used to bring me new ones every year from the book fair. IT USED TO BE ONE OF THE MOST ANTICIPATED DAY OF THE YEAR. And then, she used to give them to me at the end of every academic year – in March.
It was a lovely tradition and it helped in cultivating my reading habit. And so, I always prized those books and kept them decorated. With lots of those puffy stickers.
One of those books was titled – ”The Best Classic Fairy Tales’‘ – It was very pretty – orange colored and puffy and it had some of my favorite stories like Cinderella,Little Red Riding Hood, and Beauty and the Beast.
I loved it and of course during those first few months of owning it, I would take it to school everyday, not to show it off though LIKE THAT P! Just to make sure that it’s alright, safe with me.
I never took it out of my bag in the class. Never except that one time – in the social science period. Our teacher – with her typical short hair and mean eyes – noticed it and took it from me, asking me to give it back at the period’s end.
I waited impatiently for the bell to ring and as soon as it did, I was the first one off my seat and in front of the teacher’s desk. But she decided to troll me instead, saying that she wanted to borrow the book for a day – so that her daughter could read it.
I couldn’t very well refuse her, EXAMS WERE NEAR, worse luck! And so I nodded.
The next day, however, when she returned the book, I was shocked to see what her daughter had done – torn off ALL OF MY STICKERS, leaving the pages looking ugly with all those white patches. Like this: 😦
And you know what? She pretended as if that was always the case – as if it was like that when she took it from me in the first place!
LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?! An apology would’ve been nice.
From that day, I started being rude to that particular teacher and she’d purposefully cut my marks off for the MOST RANDOM MISTAKES.
Hide your sweaters from me if you are a rude ass punk.
Some of you who have read the part one of this post already know that I once beat up a guy for stealing my book. Well, that wasn’t the only bookish beating I executed.
There was one more. Just one. But this one is VERY important and I AM STILL VERY PROUD OF IT.
I must have been around 11? years old when this happened. You see, I used to sit with this guy from my class in the bus while going back home. He and I used to read comics. The seats used to be really small so we would sit very close to each other and read from the comics – just random cartoons or something, I don’t even remember their names now.
And this other classmate of mine, call him Hasshole, he used to make fun of that. He used to gossip about us, that mean boy gossip you know, it makes me laugh now that I think about it.
But boy did he cross his limit when he snatched the comic from us this one time and crumpled it (they used to be very thin) and started laughing like the Hasshole he was!
He shouldn’t have done that. I got so fucking angry that I went to him, pinned him to the back of the bus, and tore his sweater a bit, starting with it’s v neck. You get the idea, yeah?
He cried and cried until his stop came and unfortunately, it was the same as mine. When his mum, standing there to pick him up, saw this she asked him about it and he told her everything.
She scolded me and took me to my mother, who then scolded me again and I wasn’t allowed to go out to play FOR A WEEK!
FUCK THAT ”HASSHOLE.” I HATE HIM!
*SIGH* Well, THAT was a fun ride, wasn’t it? 😉 These are some of THE MOST memorable moments of my childhood, makes them laugh to even think about them now. And I have this vague idea that THESE ARE NOT ALL – maybe I’m forgetting something?!
Open the goddamn book, read the fucking words, pretend to be shocked/moved etc.
Reading is an art. Each step needs to be savored, taken pleasure in.It needs to speak to your soul.Reading a book should incite a change in the deepest level of your being. AND THAT CAN ONLY HAPPEN IF YOU DO IT RIGHT.
Luckily for you, I am here to enlighten you lost souls on how to properly read a book and this I will do by giving you a sneak peek into my own reading process.
Now, it may get a bit intense here but HEY! YOU KNEW WHAT YOU TOOK ON WHEN YOU CLICKED ON THIS POST, YEAH?!
SO NO COMPLAINING and let’s get to it.
Having finished reading the very last page, I close the book.My mind is still in a haze, unable to process the surroundings I now find myself in.
Seconds turn into minutes threatening to turn into hours when I snap myself out of a long lost dream, shake my hand off of the last shreds of the world I just left behind in the pages of the beautiful book lying on the bed. It’s a hard decision but a necessary one nonetheless.
I walk over to my bookshelf, admire the general splendor of all the hardbacks and paperbacks, bathe in the quiet reassurance of their utmost beauty and I just keep watching and watching….and watching…
Awe turns into irritation real quick.
Standing in front of my magnificent shelf I become aware of all the brooding eyes staring right into my soul, trying to manipulate me.
EVERY SINGLE OF MY PRIZED POSSESSIONS BEG FOR AN HONEST CONSIDERATION. Making those sweet doleful eyes, crushing my heart.
No wonder it takes me HOURS (sometimes even DAYS) to decide what to read next! But I turn my heart to stone and ignoring all their fictional pleas reach my hand out to rest on a random spine.
YES! THIS IS GOING TO BE MY COMPANION FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.
With a heavy heart, I make my way back – back to re-enter a world entirely different from my own.
Reality as I know it starts to fade away. The world around me crumbles – brick by brick- until it gives way to another dimension.
Here, I am a captive of the writer’s words. They clutch the insides of my mind and pull me in. No longer am I aware of my previous life. I am living now in the minds of these wonderful, wonderful characters – crazy, flawed, AND MORE HUMAN THAN HUMAN BEINGS THEMSELVES.
Yes. I LIKE IT HERE. Can I stay here forever? CAN I?
I am lost in a world of words and emotionsand I DON’T WANT ANYONE TO COME LOOKING.
I FEEL SAFE. I FEEL LIKE MYSELF. Yes. I AM HOME AGAIN.
I have lived a full life here, have loved these new friends that I made just a few hours ago – loved them like we’ve been together for eternity.Their laughs, their cries, their hopes and dreams, their fears, their shadows – all etched into my mind as if someone had carved them there with utmost care and precision.
But now these lovely people are about to reach the conclusions to their respective stories – all the hardships they had been subjected to are almost at an end.Their wait is over and the things they want are almost in their grasps.
And while that’s good news for them, it’s distressing to me.
I will soon have to leave them – leave this beautiful world and all these wonderful people.I have come to love their lives more than my ownbut now I won’t be privy to the details anymore.
HOW WILL I KNOW IF THEY WERE ALRIGHT TILL THE END?THAT NO DANGER BEFELL THEM AFTER WE PARTED OUR WAYS?HOWWW?!!?!
They will move away into the quiet recesses of their own little worlds,to live their own livesand I will become a mere stranger to them – A ONE-SIDED LOVER who will continue to obsess over them for days, months EVEN YEARS TO COME!
I AM UNHAPPY. OH, SO UNHAPPY.
Here I sit, with a closed book in my hands and tears welling up in my eyes.
It’s agonizing to watch a world – a world that has made me feel more alive than I have felt in a LONG LONG TIME – fade away into nothingness.
It’s a tearful realization but I keep heart.I have faith because I know that these memories that I have stolen from the neverwhere world will now stay with me forever.Because I know that with a flick of the page I will be transported back to that magical world where everything will STILL BE THE SAME.
AHH!! SUCH A LOVELY PROSPECT.
Yes. I am back again, scratching my head, trying to avoid those puppy dog eyes!
GOD HELP ME!
AND THIS, DEAR READERS, IS HOW YOU PROPERLY READ A BOOK!
I also hope that all you people who think that reading is nothing but looking at words have changed your perception of it now BECAUSE IT IS HARD WORK!!!
*dies of exhaustion and a broken heart*
Soo..do you have the same reading process as I?What steps would you like to add/take away?!?!LET ME KNOW! I WANNA KNOWWW!!!
