Fairy tales are THE TRUTH.

They are what makes us feel ALIVE for it is in the MAGIC that we seek solace NOT in reality.

Yeah, THAT MUCH IS [PRETTY CLEAR but why?

Why is it that magic appeals to us more than our mundane lives?

No, no. It can’t be the USUAL answer. It has to be something VERY SIMPLE. So simple that we often forget that it even exists. I have forgotten why it is that fairy tales tugs at that portion of our hearts that NONE OTHER CAN.

Why is it that our minds, suppress their judgement COMPLETELY, when these little tales of eternal truth cloaked in the garb of imagery and heavenly imagination are provided to our senses? Why is it that we FEEL MORE KEENLY, SEE MORE CLEARLY, and LIVE MORE BEAUTIFULLY when we believe in them and it all TURNS AROUND when we don’t?

Well,these questions have always been present in my mind, though passively. They may present themselves in NUMEROUS WAYS but the essence remains the same. But, the feeling got stronger when reading a post from THE BEST LIBRARIAN IN THE WHOLE GOD DAMN WORLD I was reminded of these little magic wands again A.K.A. FAIRY TALES. And so, I decided right there and then that  —–

I AM GOING TO OBSESS OVER Grimm’s Fairy Tales this month!!

SOUNDS FUN, RIGHT?

So, suspend your judgement, suspend your RATIONAL mind, SUSPEND EVERYTHING THAT ISN’T YOUR HEART as we explore these tales, how they were written, what’s the meaning behind them, and MOST IMPORTANTLY :

WHY ARE THEY SO APPEALING?

I HOPE to reach the answer to it all by the end of the month BUT HEY, if I can’t, then, CONTRARY to the USUAL belief, ”TOMORROW ALWAYS COMES” 😉

  1. In my case, adoring fairy tales is linked to my childhood. My mom used to read them to me or was playing audioversions of them when I had to go to sleep. I loved that!
    Although I currently have a bigger love for retellings, I still love the originals as well! Might have to put some on my TBR for next year.. Hm..

  2. Love your idea for this month’s reading theme! What a coincidence that my aunt went to Germany last month and brought me a cute wolf puppet from Wolfhagen, the hometown of Little Red Riding Hood. Honestly, I don’t like fairy tales because they’re not real at all and since I’m a practical person, I think reading them won’t make me feel better because TOMORROW ALWAYS COMES and you still have to face the music eventually. :目 Haha, but I have a friend who not only loves but LIVES fairy tales. She’s constantly pursuing what she wants and never stops chasing her dreams, which I admire a lot. 🙂 What do you plan to read first from Brothers Grimm?

      AHHHH!!! I can understand that, Jas. And you are soo true in saying that we are going to have to face the REALITY eventually BUT HEY, THINK ABOUT IT TIS WAY – If we believe that somewhere,in some other world there IS A THING CALLED MAGIC, THERE IS SOMETHING WHICH IS SO PURE, AND FREE FROM ALL THIS NEGATIVITY, it will keep you sane during the heard times. BECAUSE BELIEVE ME, I have been both rational AND fantastical and while both have their advantages, YOU REALLY CAN NEVER ESCAPE FANTASY. Why? Oh, honey, I THINK YOU KNOW WHY? 😉 Because our heads will never stop forming all those ridiculous fantasies anyway. ;p xDDD

It never occurs to me that our fantasies are sort of fairy tales/magic because I'm sooooooo used to them! LOL Like, how could you NOT fantasize about anything!!?? ONG YES YES YES ❤️🤗 Fairy tales ALWAYS appeal to me somehow and I was wondering the same things 😱 Maybe it has to do with the fact that it can allow us to escape, to belong to a world of creatures and other beings 🌸 I LOVED GRIMMS FAIIRYTALES LOL its so.. savage and dark 🤣🤣 Let me know what you think about it !!

    1. YESS!!! YOU ARE RIGHT! The feelings of escapism are SOOO STRONG with Fairy Tales. But heyyy!! Don’t you also believe that apart from this sense of escaping into a magical world, there is also a sense of……uhhh……like it feels as if – YES. THIS IS WHAT HAS BEEN MISSING FROM OUR LIVES.Doesn’t it feel MORE REAL THAN THE REALITY ITSELF? That’s why I believe fairy tales are the realest things EVERRR because they explore the MIND – MAGICAL, UNINHIBITED MIND – of the writer and in so doing, opens up DOORS TO GREATER WORLDS FOR THE READER AS WELL. 😁

      And OMG, YES! Grimm’s tales are soo dark soooo……WOW! 😉😁😁

  6. OMG I LOVE THIS IDEAAAA!!! shhuuuuuushhh all the people that say fairy tales are stupid, THEY’RE BRILLIANT. I also LOVE RETELLINGS. But omg fairy tales are so MAgIcAL and amazing and sweet and THEY ALWAYS HAVE A HAPPILY EVER AFTER AND I LOVE THAT.

      Oh yes. I love retelling tooo!! BUT I AGREE THAT THERE IS AN ORIGINAL CHARM TO FAIRY TALES which retellings JUST CAN’T CAPTURE. And YESSSS!!! Happily Ever Afters ARE THE BEST.   7. UM THIS POST WAS FUCKING MAGICAL AND BEAUTIFUL AND SLIGHTLY TERRIFYING BUT I LOVED IT. I literally felt like I was reading a fairy tale as you were describing them like WHO ARE YOU?? A WIZARD?!?! IDK!!! I actually haven’t really read any fairy tales because ummmm idk I SUCK AT LIFE. Like my mom never had me watch any of the classic disney princess movies or read any fairy tales so I feel lost all the time and I basically know nothing.. so like I feel like I have to JOIN YOU IN THIS FAIRY TALE QUEST!!!! LIKE LET ME KNKW WHAT YOURE READIG BECAUSE I NEED TO BECOME WISE WITH THE FAIRY TAKE GODS! And this is the perfect month for it and omg I’m already feeling a beautifully dark aesthetic board for this.. wow we are geniuses!!!!!

This is such a beautiful intro post for your theme this month! 😍 I’m hoping that I’ll gain a better understanding why I read and love fairy tales as well by reading your posts, because as a kid I ADORED any books relating to fairy tales — original, retellings, or even books with the tiniest references to fairy tales. I’m so excited to read your coming up fairty tale-related posts!! 😋📚

  10. I *love* fairytales!! And yes, the reason why I feel like we keep going back to them is because they hold little kernels of truth wrapped up in simple imagination. A lot of them are so archetypal that we can relate to them on the most basic level and they provide the structures for so many other stories. There’s something very powerful about them 😀

  11. I looove fairy tales and fairy tale retellings soooo much! I don’t know what it is about them, but probably the feeling of nostalgia I get whenever I read them. Plus the fact that they are usually so cool and inventive and mix up different genres and can basically be recycled in an infinite number of ways!
    Whenever someone tells me fairy tales are for children, I tell them right there and then: we cannot be friends. That’s all.

  12. That’s a great theme 🙂 I don’t think they’re for children at all! I think most fairytales are too ruthless for children o.o they can be really rough! That’s why I sometimes fear reading them xD some of the stories are tough to stomach, and the fairytale fairness and code of justice can be really hard to go with for me. I guess they breathe the view of the world from centuries back 🙂
